About

Providing straightforward information pertaining to drugs, drug use & drug policy. The Grey Pages promotes drug-related literacy and advocates a system of viable and tolerant drug policies. This is my personal collection of commentaries, essays, tid-bits, and other such writings on everything ranging from drug use, drug policy and drug-myths, to drug-science, addiction, human behavior, and the workings of the human brain. I started this blog with a particular focus on opioids, and over the past year have found my interest gravitate toward the intriguing, ever-changing world of designer intoxicants (i.e. "research chemicals" or "designer drugs").

Arylcyclohexylamines

MXE

Methoxetamine (MXE) is a psychoactive compound of the arylcyclohexylamine class and is an analogue of ketamine. It is believed to act as an NMDA antagonist and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. MXE has been sold on the grey market as a research chemical but is reportedly difficult to come by.

According to some consumers, many products are misrepresented as MXE. Most commercially available methoxetamine comes as the hydrochloride salt, and appears as a slightly off white powder.

MXE is most often taken intranasally or sublingually. As with ketamine, MXE is sometimes injected (most often into a muscle). The typical dose ranges from as little as 5 mg to 100 mg or more. Its effects last anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, depending on the route of administration and dose.

Three cases of acute cerebellar toxicity have been noted in individuals presenting to the hospital for methoxetamine overdose.

3-MeO-PCP

Also known as 3-methoxy-phencyclidine.

3-MeO-PCP is a psychoactive drug of the dissociative family, which in recent years has been distributed as a research chemical (i.e. designer drug). It possesses psychedelic, euphorigenic, and sedative properties.

This compound is an arylcyclohexylamine derivative, and an analogue of PCP (phencyclidine). 3-MeO-PCP is about equal in potency to PCP, or about 10x more potent than its 4-MeO analogue.

3-MeO-PCP is believed to act as an NMDA receptor antagonist, and as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor.3-MeO-PCP

4-MeO-PCP

Also known as 4-methoxy-phencycidine, or methoxydine.

4-MeO-PCP is a psychoactive drug of the dissociative family, which in recent years has been distributed as a research chemical (i.e. designer drug). It possesses psychedelic, euphorigenic, and sedative properties. This compound is an arylcyclohexylamine derivative, and an analogue of PCP (phencyclidine). Methoxydine has roughly the same potency as ketamine.

Its pharmacology is similar to PCP; it is believed to act as an NMDA antagonist, and as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor.
